About Me

I am Rhonda Hudson, a Monaco-based author, Soul Purpose Coach, Kundalini Yoga and Breathwork Facilitator, and President of the Kate Powers Foundation.

For more than thirty years, I’ve explored consciousness, spiritual practices, and human transformation, but through my father, Kate, and Ian, I began to recognize that perhaps my life had been preparing me for this. I was being given the opportunity to embody what those years had taught me and to choose, moment by moment, how I would meet what was before me.

At its heart, this book offers another lens: a way of recognizing that love may still be present when memory changes, remembering that the soul is not erased by a diagnosis, and opening to possibilities beyond what we have been taught to fear.

My Story

When my father collapsed while working as a school crossing guard in California in 2021, I boarded one of the first flights permitted from Europe during the COVID travel restrictions, not knowing what had happened—only knowing that I needed to be there.

In the months and years that followed, I found myself at my father’s bedside through recurring episodes, hospital admissions, rehabilitation, appointments with specialists, and eventually a diagnosis of Lewy body dementia. There were so many questions we could not answer and so much that none of us yet understood. I was not prepared for the world we were entering. I was his daughter, trying to make sense of what was happening and searching for answers after everything familiar suddenly changed.

Yet within the uncertainty, something unexpected began to reveal itself. As I learned to walk beside my father through the episodes, hallucinations, and shadows he was experiencing, I began to see more clearly what remained. The deepest part of who he was had not disappeared. Love was still there. Connection was still possible. And when words, logic, or memory could no longer reach him, presence often could.

The Blessings of Alzheimer’s & Dementia is a spiritual memoir born from this journey.

It is an intimate exploration of what it means to love someone whose experience of the world is changing, and of what may be discovered when we stop measuring a life only by what the mind can remember.

During these same months, I was also grieving the death of my beloved friend Kate and walking beside my partner Ian after a devastating bicycle accident. Within a span of just seven months in 2021, these three experiences changed the landscape of my life. Each asked something different of me, yet all brought me to the same quiet threshold: the place where control ends and love asks us to remain.

It was through loving my father, grieving Kate, and walking alongside Ian that I began to understand the work that had been forming quietly within me. I call it the work of the Architect of Remembrance: helping us return to the truth of who we are and allowing that remembrance to become embodied in the way we live.

Woven throughout the memoir are the practices that helped me remain present: breathwork, meditation, imagination, reflection, play, prayer, and simple moments of human connection. They are offered not as answers, but as gentle companions for caregivers, families, and anyone learning to live beside uncertainty, loss, or change—as well as those quietly questioning what gives our lives meaning and purpose.

I believe every human being carries an innate blueprint of love, wisdom, and soul purpose. For me, remembrance is returning again and again to the awareness of what is most true within us and allowing that truth to shape the way we love, choose, create, and live.

"Sometimes the greatest blessing is not that another person remembers us, but that through loving them, we remember ourselves."

A Spiritual Memoir

The Blessings of Alzheimer’s & Dementia is a spiritual memoir about a father and daughter, caregiving, grief, identity and remembrance. Woven through Rhonda’s story are simple practices of breath, meditation, prayer, imagination and play, not as answers to dementia, but as invitations to meet what is happening with greater presence, curiosity and love.

“I believe my father was living his purpose even through dementia. I was living mine beside him. And somewhere within those two journeys, this book was born.”
